Section I

Documentation and Academic Structure of the Department

The Department of Human–AI Interaction, Data and Digital Ethics examines the interaction dynamics, data practices, and ethical dimensions of deployed AI systems — distinct from the sibling Department of Human Formation Technology and Artificial Intelligence, which designs and builds those systems, this Department examines what happens once real people actually interact with them.

An interaction with an AI system generates data, and that data can be collected, retained, and used in ways the person interacting never genuinely consented to. This Department closes the founding architecture of Faculty IX by holding informed digital autonomy as a non-negotiable standard for every AI interaction the Institute’s own practice touches.

This document establishes the Department’s complete academic and institutional documentation architecture across seven structural layers, closing the founding architecture of Faculty IX and completing the documentation architecture of all nine Faculties of the CYTOG HUMAN FORMATION AND LEARNING.

Field → Department → Programme → Curriculum → Module → Assessment → Research → Formation Practice → Award → Graduate

Stage One · Foundational Framework

Section II

Foundational Framework

Governing Field. Human Formation, examined through the discipline of Human–AI Interaction, Data and Digital Ethics — the systematic study of interaction dynamics between people and AI systems, the data those interactions generate, and the ethical standards governing both.

Central Premise. A person interacting with an AI system retains genuine autonomy over the data that interaction generates, including the right to know what is collected, how it is used, and to withdraw consent at any time. That autonomy does not diminish because the interaction felt casual, conversational, or informal.

Foundational Theoretical Anchor. The Department operates under the Principle of Methodological Integrity established by the Department of Research Methodology, and coordinates closely with the Department of Human Formation Technology and Artificial Intelligence (Faculty IX, Principle of Non-Substitutive AI Formation Support), the Department of Learning Sciences (Faculty V, Principle of Learner Data Dignity), and the Department of Human Formation Measurement and Analytics (Faculty IX, Principle of Non-Surveillance Formation Analytics), drawing together each Department’s data protections into a unified digital ethics standard.

A CASUAL CONVERSATION WITH AN AI SYSTEM IS STILL A DATA INTERACTION, AND STILL DESERVES GENUINE CONSENT.

Stage Three · Delivery Framework

Section IV

Delivery Framework

The Department is delivered online-first, using structured cohort-based study supported by Module Specifications, Study Guides, Teaching Manuals, and Assessment Briefs for every unit, consistent with the Institute’s established production standard.

Structured Instruction
Levels 4–5 establish foundational vocabulary and theory concerning human–AI interaction dynamics, data ethics, and informed consent.

Scaffolded Independence
Levels 6–7 progressively require independent research and applied digital ethics consulting under supervision.

Cohort-Based Study
Learners progress in structured cohorts, supporting collaborative audit of AI systems and data practices against consent standards.

Distance and Blended Access
All programmes are available by distance; the Professional Practice Certificate includes supervised practicum in digital ethics and AI interaction consulting.

Stage Four · Curriculum

Section V

Curriculum

The BA (Honours) Human–AI Interaction, Data and Digital Ethics curriculum proceeds across four levels, numbered HAI101 through HAI111, following the Institute’s core pedagogical standard: scaffolded progression from structured instruction toward fully independent, consent-centred digital ethics practice.

Level Focus Modules
Level 4 Foundations of Human–AI Interaction, Data and Digital Ethics; the casual–consequential distinction; introduction to data consent theory HAI101–HAI104
Level 5 Interaction design and data governance; comparative digital ethics frameworks; ethics of AI-mediated data collection HAI105–HAI107
Level 6 Independent digital ethics research; capstone applied interaction audit study; specialization electives HAI108–HAI109
Level 7 (MA) Advanced digital ethics theory; human–AI interaction and Human Formation; research methods; dissertation HAI110–HAI111

Key Pedagogical Standard. Every module moves the learner from structured instruction toward the independent capacity to audit AI interaction systems for genuine informed consent — no learner exits the programme treating a conversational or informal interaction as exempt from the same data consent standard applied to formal data collection.

Stage Five · Research Fields and Centres

Section VI

Research Fields and Centres

The Department maintains the following primary research fields:

Human–AI Interaction Dynamics
Data Governance and Informed Consent Theory
Human–AI Interaction, Data and Digital Ethics and Human Formation Technology (joint with sibling Department)
Human–AI Interaction, Data and Digital Ethics and Learner Data Dignity (joint with Faculty V, Department of Learning Sciences)
Human–AI Interaction, Data and Digital Ethics and Non-Surveillance Analytics (joint with Department of Human Formation Measurement and Analytics)
Comparative Digital Ethics Frameworks Across Jurisdictions
Right to Withdraw Consent in Ongoing AI Interactions
Digital Ethics and Institutional Accountability (joint with Faculty IV, Department of Institutional Studies)

Centre for Human–AI Interaction, Data and Digital Ethics

The Department’s standing research centre, coordinating cross-domain research with the Department of Research Methodology, the Department of Human Formation Technology and Artificial Intelligence, and the Department of Human Formation Measurement and Analytics.

Stage Six · Assessment and Ethics

Section VII

Assessment and Ethics

Assessment in the Department evaluates a learner’s competence in digital ethics theory and their demonstrated capacity to design and audit AI interaction systems for genuine informed consent — never a reward for treating casual or conversational AI interactions as exempt from consent obligations that apply to formal data collection.

Because AI interactions generate data whose collection and use a person may not fully anticipate, the Department applies its most comprehensive integrity principle, closing the ethics chain of Faculty IX.

THE PRINCIPLE OF INFORMED DIGITAL AUTONOMY: every person interacting with an AI system within the Institute’s practice retains genuine autonomy over the data that interaction generates. Informed consent shall be obtained for data collection and any downstream use, the person shall be able to learn what data is collected and how it is used, and consent shall remain freely revocable at any time, regardless of how casual or conversational the interaction felt.

Section XXVI

Informed Digital Autonomy Ethics Principle

Because AI interactions generate data whose collection and use a person may not fully anticipate, the Department’s ethical commitments govern every module, practicum, and research activity it authorizes, and close the ethics chain of Faculty IX with a principle that draws together every data protection standard the Institute has established.

THE PRINCIPLE OF INFORMED DIGITAL AUTONOMY (restated as governing Department ethic): this Department holds that a person’s autonomy over their own data does not shrink because an AI interaction felt informal or conversational. Every graduate of this Department designs and audits systems that make consent genuine, information available, and withdrawal always possible.

This principle governs curriculum design, digital ethics and AI interaction practicum, assessment design, and all research conducted across the Department, and stands as the final entry alongside the Principle of Methodological Integrity (Department of Research Methodology), the Principle of Classificatory Equity (Department of Knowledge Systems), the Principle of Accessible Information Design (Department of Information Architecture), the Principle of Documentary Integrity (Department of Documentation Studies), the Principle of Peer Review Integrity (Department of Scholarly Communication), the Principle of Equitable Preservation (Department of Knowledge Preservation), the Principle of Model Restraint in Formation Systems (Department of Human Formation Systems and Modelling), the Principle of Non-Surveillance Formation Analytics (Department of Human Formation Measurement and Analytics), and the Principle of Non-Substitutive AI Formation Support (Department of Human Formation Technology and Artificial Intelligence) in the complete set of ethical protections held across Faculty IX.

Section XXVII

Tuition Principle

Tuition for every programme is published in full above, with no undisclosed fees. Where a learner’s circumstances warrant it, the Department may offer needs-based tuition adjustment, cohort scholarships, or staged payment plans, at the discretion of the Institute’s admissions and finance offices.

Tuition figures reflect the Institute’s standard credit-based tuition model and are reviewed annually.

Section XXVIII

Final Delivery and Access Declaration

The Department of Human–AI Interaction, Data and Digital Ethics is delivered online-first to maximize access for learners regardless of geographic location, with structured cohort support, complete documentation for every module, and a clear pathway from Certificate through PhD. No learner shall be required to relocate to access any taught programme offered by this Department.

Section XXIX

Final Structural Declaration

The Department of Human–AI Interaction, Data and Digital Ethics stands as the final founding Department of Faculty IX, holding every AI interaction the Institute’s practice touches to a standard of genuine, freely revocable, informed consent. Every award, module, and research activity documented above proceeds through the Department’s permanent structural chain:

Field → Department → Programme → Curriculum → Module → Assessment → Research → Formation Practice → Award → Graduate

This chain governs the Department of Human–AI Interaction, Data and Digital Ethics now and permanently, coordinated with, and answerable to, the Principle of Methodological Integrity held by the Department of Research Methodology. With this Department, the complete founding architecture of Faculty IX — ten Departments, ten ethics principles, one governing chain — stands documented in full.

With the completion of this Department, the CYTOG HUMAN FORMATION AND LEARNING’s entire academic architecture stands documented across all nine Faculties: seventy-three Departments, seventy-three named ethics principles, each cross-referencing the Departments that preceded it within its own Faculty, and every Faculty closing with its own governing declaration. The Institute’s Faculties and Departments are now complete.
