Department of
Education
Documentation and Academic Structure of the Department
The Department of Education examines the general theory, philosophy, and practice of teaching and learning — what education is for, how it should be delivered, and what a society owes every learner regardless of their circumstances of birth.
As the founding Department of Faculty V, Education establishes the general theory that its seven sibling Departments — Learning Sciences, Curriculum Studies, Educational Psychology, Assessment and Evaluation, Human Formation Pedagogy, Instructional Design, and Lifelong Learning — each specialize further.
This document establishes the Department’s complete academic and institutional documentation architecture across seven structural layers.
Foundational Framework
Governing Field. Human Formation, examined through the discipline of Education — the systematic study of the philosophy, purpose, and general theory of teaching and learning.
Central Premise. Education’s purpose is to develop a learner’s own independent judgment, not to produce agreement with the instructor’s or institution’s preferred conclusions, and that purpose is only fully honoured when access to education does not depend on a learner’s wealth, location, or birth.
Foundational Theoretical Anchor. The Department is the founding Department of Faculty V, coordinating closely with its sibling Departments across learning theory, curriculum, and pedagogy, and with the Department of Philosophy (Faculty II), whose Principle of Charitable and Honest Argument this Department extends into general educational practice.
Programme List
The Department offers a complete academic ladder from foundational study through doctoral research.
Delivery Framework
The Department is delivered online-first, using structured cohort-based study supported by Module Specifications, Study Guides, Teaching Manuals, and Assessment Briefs for every unit, consistent with the Institute’s established production standard.
Curriculum
The BA (Honours) Education curriculum proceeds across four levels, numbered ED101 through ED111, following the Institute’s core pedagogical standard: scaffolded progression from structured instruction toward fully independent educational practice.
| Level | Focus | Modules |
|---|---|---|
| Level 4 | Foundations of Education; the judgment–conformity distinction; introduction to educational philosophy | ED101–ED104 |
| Level 5 | Comparative educational traditions; equity of access; ethics of teaching authority | ED105–ED107 |
| Level 6 | Independent educational research; capstone applied teaching study; specialization electives | ED108–ED109 |
| Level 7 (MA) | Advanced educational theory; education and Human Formation; research methods; dissertation | ED110–ED111 |
Key Pedagogical Standard. Every module moves the learner from structured instruction toward the independent capacity to teach in a way that develops a learner’s own judgment rather than mere agreement — no learner exits the programme mistaking a quiet, compliant classroom for a genuinely educated one.
Research Fields and Centres
The Department maintains the following primary research fields:
Centre for Educational Studies
The Department’s standing research centre, coordinating cross-domain research with the Department of Learning Sciences, the Department of Human Formation Pedagogy, and the Department of Philosophy (Faculty II).
Assessment and Ethics
Assessment in the Department evaluates a learner’s competence in educational theory and their demonstrated capacity to teach toward independent judgment — never a reward for producing the most compliant or agreeable classroom.
Because teaching confers real authority over developing minds, and because access to education is unevenly distributed across the world, the Department applies a dedicated integrity principle governing both risks.
Award Titles
Public-Facing Department Page
The Department of Education is where the Institute studies the philosophy and general theory of teaching and learning — oriented toward developing a learner’s own independent judgment, and toward widening access to education rather than restricting it. As the founding Department of Faculty V, it establishes the general theory its seven sibling Departments each specialize further.
Learners join a structured academic pathway from Certificate through PhD, moving from guided foundational study toward independent educational practice, supported at every level by the Institute’s full documentation standard: Module Specifications, Study Guides, Teaching Manuals, and Assessment Briefs.

| Level | Credits (Full Level) | Notional Learning Hours |
|---|---|---|

Educational Ethics Principle
Because teaching confers real authority over developing minds and educational access remains unevenly distributed globally, the Department’s ethical commitments govern every module, practicum, and research activity it authorizes, and establish the founding ethics principle for Faculty V as a whole.
This principle governs curriculum design, teaching practicum, assessment design, and all research conducted across the Department, and stands as the founding ethics principle of Faculty V, to be cross-referenced by the Faculty’s remaining seven Departments as they are documented.
Tuition Principle
Tuition for every programme is published in full above, with no undisclosed fees. Where a learner’s circumstances warrant it, the Department may offer needs-based tuition adjustment, cohort scholarships, or staged payment plans, at the discretion of the Institute’s admissions and finance offices.
Tuition figures reflect the Institute’s standard credit-based tuition model and are reviewed annually.
Final Delivery and Access Declaration
The Department of Education is delivered online-first to maximize access for learners regardless of geographic location, with structured cohort support, complete documentation for every module, and a clear pathway from Certificate through PhD. No learner shall be required to relocate to access any taught programme offered by this Department.
Final Structural Declaration
The Department of Education stands as the founding Department of Faculty V, holding the general theory of teaching and learning from which its seven sibling Departments each specialize further. Every award, module, and research activity documented above proceeds through the Department’s permanent structural chain:
This chain governs the Department of Education now and permanently, and this document opens the documentation architecture of Faculty V, whose remaining seven Departments shall each build upon and cross-reference the Principle of Educational Equity and Intellectual Independence established here.
